Located 11km southwest of Aveiro, the Costa Nova beach covers a large area and stretches from the beaches of Barra in the north to Vagueira in the south. The coast road is lined by brightly coloured candy-striped beach houses. The sea is often rough and is popular with surfers. On the other side of the coastal road the waters of the Aveiro estuary are calm and suitable for windsurfing and sailing. This is an EEC blue flag beach, with lifeguards in season, facilities for the disabled, an average summer seawater temperature of 16 ºC and ample bars and restaurants.
