The beaches of Costa da Caparica are separated from the town by a promenade and divided into a number of smaller beaches by breakwaters, built to protect both the towns and the beaches from the effects of flooding. All beaches are blue flag and have lifeguards. They take their names from the cafes that serve them, such as Tarquínio, Dragão Vermelho (Red Dragon) and Nova Praia (New Beach). Many people are attracted from Lisbon and there are good transport facilities. The average seawater temperature in summer is 17-19°C and the beaches are suitable for both surfing and body boarding.
