Just southeast of Braga is the Santuário de Santa Marta das Cortiças. The sanctuary includes a chapel, a monument to Our Lady of the Assumption, the ruins of a Paleo-Christian Basilica and a Roman Domus. The worship of this cult goes back many centuries and there is reference to the Mount of Santa Marta in documents dated 900 and 924 AD. The arch of the transept contains the arms of the Bishop of Braga and the sanctuary contains the ex-votos of the pilgrims. The main feast day is July 29th.
