The Convent of Santa Clara in Évora was founded in 1452 by the Bishop of Évora, Dom Vasco Perdigão. The convent followed the religious rules of St Francis. One of the more famous residents of the convent, although not a nun, was Princess D. Joana, daughter of Henrique IV of Castille and fiancé of the King of Portugal, D. Afonso V. Important features of the interior include the Baroque mural paintings of the church’s vaulted ceiling. The building currently houses the nucleus of the Évora Museum, while the latter is closed for remodelling works. The convent has facilities for disabled visitors.
