The remains of the old Convento da Esperança can be found in the Rua da Sé near the cathedral. The convent was once part of the Santa Clara order and was founded in the middle of the 16th century. Today, it accommodates a branch of the Caixa Geral de Depositos. During restoration work, following the 1980 earthquake, parts of the old convent church, such as stone arches and windows, were dug up and re-integrated within the bank building.
