The Convent of St Francisco, found within the protective walls of Castelo do Montemor-o-Novo, was originally the Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Graca (Hermitage of Our Lady of Grace). It was constructed in 1495 under the orders of the Master of the Castle. Once a sanctuary and home for religious orders, it is no longer used as a place of worship, but has been extensively renovated for secular purposes and is today the home of the Cultural Arts Association.
