The Convento do Saudação was constructed in the 16th century and renovated in the 19th. This building, protected by the castle walls, is considered to be the monument of greatest artistic value in Montemor-o-Novo. If you visit the convent, currently undergoing restoration work, take a look at the tiles dating from 1651 in the Portaria (entrance hall). Also interesting are the Claustros (cloisters). Through the arch into the garden you will find the church of St James (Igreja de Santiago), the Torre da Má Hora or de Menagem (Tower of the bad hour, or the Keep) and the Porta do Sol (gateway of the sun).
