Contendas is a stretch of sand in front of cliffs at Salgas Bay. This small islet next to the coast is a sheltered point break that has reasonably consistent surf and so attracts many surfers. From a purely surfing point of view the autumn and winter are the best times of year for waves. Because access isn’t the easiest, even when there are good waves, the beach is unlikely to be crowded. This is not a supervised beach and is not recommended for children.
