The northern part of Consolação Beach stretches south from Medão beach down to the Forte de Consolação. The seas are particularly suited to surfers, body boarders and windsurfers. Below the fort the beach is rocky and is rich in iodine which, in combination with the sun, is said to have therapeutic properties. This is an EEC blue flag beach with lifeguards on duty in season and there are facilities for the disabled. The average summer seawater temperature is 17-18 ºC and the area is suitable for diving. Parking is available, umbrellas can be hired and there are bars, restaurants and cafes.
