Conceição is a charmingly typical Algarve village. Single story houses, with doors and windows picked out in bright colours and facades edged with geometrically-patterned borders, add to the beauty and enhance its old-world appeal. The main church is from the16th century, but was rebuilt in the 19th century. It has a Renaissance entrance and the main chapel has a panelled vault. There is also a triumphal arch bearing Manueline decoration. The paintings date from the 18th century and the statue of the Crucifixion mounted on a column is earlier, dating from the 16th century.
