Located in Atouguia da Baleia, the baroque church of Our Lady of Conception was built with public donations, including that from Queen Maria Sofia of Neuberg, wife of King Pedro II. Dating from the late 17th century the design is attributed to the royal architect João Antunes (1642-1712), who was also responsible for the Church of Santa Engrácia in Lisbon. Features of particular interest include the use of various shades of marble on the chancel walls, the shell-shaped fonts of Arrábida marble and the 17th century carved and gilded altar
