Citania de Sanfins de Ferreira is one of the most important archaeological stations in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located on a hilltop approximately 19 km east of Santo Tirso. An Iron Age citadel, it is thought to have been inhabited since the 6th century BC. The 36 acre site contains the remains of some 100 huts and a triple ring of defensive walls dating from the 2nd century BC. There is a small museum on site.
