The 16th century Igreja da Misericórdia has a radiate Manueline entrance decorated with carved ropes and two twisted pinnacles. The style known as Manueline is named after King Manuel I (1495 to 1521) who introduced it. As is the case with this church, Manuline architecture was used to decorate portals, porches, and interiors. Opposite the doorway is a 16th century cross and statues of Christ and Our Lady. The carved altarpiece in the main chapel is 18th century, but there are two 16th century statues, one of alabaster which originally came from the Graça Monastery.
