The Capela de São Sebastião (Church of St Sebastian), although modest-looking from the outside, is worthy of a visit as it contains an accomplished work of 17th century sculpture, a statue of Nossa Senhora do Desterro (Our Lady of Exile) which is highly expressive of sorrow. It came from the former Franciscan monastery, which once dominated the town. The canopy and whimsical columns, which are incorporated in the retable around the altar, are believed also to come from the abandoned monastery.
