The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Luz was built in the 16th century, but all that remains of the original construction is the Manueline doorway to the bell tower. Rebuilt in the 18th century, it has an attractive baroque façade with neo-classical elements. Inside the church is an 18th century representation of Nossa Senhora da Luz, the church’s patroness, attributed to the sculptor Machado de Castro. There are also a large number of icons and reliquaries from the 17th and 18th centuries and the sacristy houses a magnificent chest in Brazil wood, together with an 18th century silver incense boat.
