The small town of Celorico de Basto lies close to the River Tamega, to the west of Mondim de Basto. The four bunches of grapes on its coat of arms tell of the principal product; quality vinho verde. The region attracted nobility and some of its manor houses date back to the 17th century. Most are private residences but one, the Casa de Campo, is a guest house with its own renaissance chapel. The Castle of Arnóia is a small stone fortress, thought to date from the 11th century and consisting of a crenellated tower connected to a polygonal wall.
