Castelo de Vide is a stunning fortified town. Its Jewish quarter is one of the most important in Portugal, dating back to the thirteenth century. This area has one of the largest and most interesting collections of architecture from the Gothic period. The best way to appreciate the town’s mediaeval charm is to stroll through the steep, narrow streets. Just outside the town is the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Penha, from where visitors gain panoramic views. Castelo de Vide is known for hot springs, whose waters are said to have great healing properties.
