The name of Constância is closely linked with the memory of Luís Vaz de Camões (1524-1580) the great 16th century Portuguese poet. Banned from court as a young man, after an affair with Catarina d’Ataide, he lived in Constância for a while. There is a statue of him near his home, the Casa Memória de Camões, by the river which can be visited. The "Pomonas Camonianas" are festivals that portray the medieval age. They are held on June 10th every year, when the town pays homage to its poet. Every Sunday the river bank is lined with market stalls.
