Visitors exploring the port country should try and make the time to visit the Casa do Douro, administrative headquarters of the Port Wine Institute in Peso da Régua. It has magnificent modern stained glass windows by Lino António, which show the history and method of port wine production. There is also a very interesting map of the Douro Valley dating from the mid 19th century. This was drawn by Baron Joseph Forrester, who joined his uncle’s wine firm in Porto and was instrumental in reforming the port wine trade.
