The village of Carrasqueira is located within the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve and is inhabited, as it has been for generations, by fishermen. Some of the quaint traditional wooden huts have been converted into holiday homes, but many are still used for their original purpose of providing shelter and a place to store the necessities of life. Consisting mainly of wetlands made up of calm lagoons, this stunning natural reserve of 23,160 hectares is bordered by banks interesting for their biological wealth and diversity of animal life. A series of parafitte jetties provides great views over the mudflats of the estuary.
