The Museu da Tapeçaria de Portalegre was set up to preserve and study this unique form of craftsmanship as well as pay homage to the work of Guy Fino, founder of the Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre (Portalegre Carpet Manufacturing). The museum puts on temporary exhibitions along themes such as carpet weaving or design, having effectively become a museum for contemporary art. Included are woven reproductions of art produced by Júlio Pomar, Lima de Freitas, Maria Keil, Vieira da Silva, Almada Negreiros, Fred Kradolfer, Costa Pinheiro, Eduardo Nery, Arpad Szenes and José de Guimarães. There are facilities for disabled visitors and guided tours are available.
