Located approximately 7 km northeast of Figueira da Foz, the Carniçosas Dolmen consists of a gallery about 4.5 metres long and a chamber, formed by substantial support stones. It is the best preserved collective grave of a massive Neolithic burial ground built along the Serra das Alhadas. The site was acquired by the Figueira Archaeological Society in 1898 who, with good intentions, built a protective wall which is unfortunately sited on the artificial earth mound and stones, which are an integral part of the grave. The site was classified as a National Monument in 1910
