On the south-eastern tip of Graciosa lies the pretty little village of Carapacho. This is a fishing village with a tiny fishing port and is mainly known for its hundred-year-old spa. Renovated in 1993, the spa is famous for its 40°C warm thermal spring containing sulphur and sodium chloride, which attracts many visitors who suffer from rheumatism and skin diseases. Founded in 1450, Carapacho is the oldest settlement on the island. It is very popular during the summer months because of its attractive natural swimming pool.
