The Convento dos Capuchos was built during the 16th century, but was damaged by the 1755 earthquake and certain ornamental changes were made during the restoration. Until the abolition of religious orders in 1834, it was the home of the hooded Franciscan friars. Note the statue of St Anthony in a niche on the façade and, inside, the 18th century decorative tiles depicting scenes from the life of St Francis. There is a great view over the protected area of the Arriba Fóssil (Fossil Cliff). The buildings were completely restored in 1960 and concerts are held there.
