Camilo Castelo Branco(1825-1890) was one of Portugal’s most famous 19th century authors and the Casa-Museu de Camilo is in São Miguel de Seide, about 8.5 km north of Santa Tirso. He moved to this house in 1863 and it is where he wrote most of his works and also where he committed suicide. Amongst the best known of his 260 works is ‘Amor de Perdição’, the English title being ‘Love of Perdition’. The museum houses his 19th century furniture, personal possessions, paintings and sculptures and a library which includes biographies as well as his works.
