The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceicao is iintegrated within the monastery of Recollects (Calouras). Founded in the 17th century, it is an interesting example of Baroque architecture. The facade and interior are covered with glazed tiles Chancel, but most notable is the retable which has funny angels with thick moustaches. The statues are attributed to a French sculptor who, with his son, lived among the Recollects of Franciscan monks. The churchyard has a bucolic atmosphere amidst the ruins of the former fortifications. Many of the tombstones have poetical inscriptions.
