The town of Cadaval is about 24 km east of Lourinhã, surrounded by vineyards and orchards; the highlight of its year is the grape harvest in September. The 13th century Senhora das Neves chapel, with its fine marble altar, is on the nearby Serra de Montejunto. In the same area are the ruins of both the first monastery of the Dominican Order in Portugal and the Royal Ice Factory. In the 18th century ice was collected, stored in tanks, and then taken to Lisbon to supply the Court and the cafés. In Cadaval itself the Igreja Matriz is worth a visit.
