Cachopo is a small village dating from the 16th century with whitewashed houses, traditional stone benches, community ovens, threshing floors, furnaces and intricately decorated chimneys. The Fonte Férrea spring nearby is a beautiful location, ideal for picnicking. In the village is a small museum showing life in the “serra” uplands. The Church of Saint Steven looks over the village and close by is a pack-saddle maker’s shop and a blacksmith. You can learn about age old hand weaving techniques in a weaving workshop called “A Lançadeira” (The Weaver’s Shuttle) where it is possible to purchase pieces of local handicrafts.
