One of the island’s most popular view sites, Cabo Girão, is located about 12 km west of Funchal on the island’s southern coast and just beyond the picturesque village of Câmara de Lobos. One of the highest cliff faces in the world, it peaks at 589 metres above sea level. Behind the safety of railings, look down on a breathtaking view with the unusual sight of birds flying below you and reflect on national poet Luís Vaz de Camoes’(1524-1580) comment, that Madeira lies ‘at the end of the world’. This is a popular starting point for hikers.
