Cabo Carvoeiro is the Peniche peninsula’s headland and the second most westerly point on the European mainland. Located 2 km from the town, it provides great coastal views including that of Berlenga Island. The fierce pounding of the sea has produced numerous weird rock shapes, such as the formation known as Nau dos Corvos (Ship of the Crows), where seagulls and crows perch. There are many caves such as Furninha and the area attracts many fishermen. The present 27-metre lighthouse was built in 1886 and nearby there is a well known restaurant, from which you can enjoy the views.
