Buarcos used to be a quiet fishing village but is now a lively resort, with the large sandy beach a focal point. It is about 3 km north of the centre of Figueira da Foz. The Cape of Mondego gives shelter from the strong northerly winds, providing a calmer sea which is popular with windsurfers. Lifeguards are on duty in season and the average seawater temperature in summer is 16 ºC. There are bars and restaurants, facilities for the disabled, umbrellas can be hired and parking is available.
