The Buçaco Military Museum is located on the northeast side of the National Forest of Buçaco, just off the N 234. It was inaugurated on the 27th September 1910 by King Manuel II, to commemorate the centenary of the crucial Battle of Buçaco. The forest was the battle ground where the Anglo-Portuguese army, led by the Duke of Wellington, defeated the Napoleonic French army under Marshal André Massena in the Peninsular War. The museum, which was extended and reorganized in 1962, reconstructs much of the drama of the battle and displays guns, equipment, uniforms, pictures and other relevant items.
