Built in the 16th century with the support of Duke Teodósio, and originally intended to be a Convent for the Order of Saint Claire, it was used as a Jesuit school from 1562 until 1759. After the Jesuit suppression, the church was given to the Bishop of Miranda and became a cathedral in 1764, when the bishop’s seat was transferred to Bragança. Architectural features include a niche and statue of the Virgin on the façade and a richly decorated interior. The sacristy has a coffered painted ceiling and painted panels of the life of St Ignatius Loyola on the walls.
