With its enchanting location in the valley of Flamingos, the Jardim Botânico dos Flamengos displays many endemic and endangered plants. Here, there are all kinds of specialised gardens, such as the one on the western side that contains exotic and native species of aromatic and medicinal plants. The garden on the eastern side is dedicated to the collection of plants that are endemic to the Azores, together with specimens from Madeira and the Canaries. There is a section containing exotic ornamental plants. Continuing another two km towards the interior, the sleepy village of Flamengos, idyllically embedded in a beautiful hilly landscape.
