One of the oldest residences in the city, which once faced onto a spacious square, but is now located in a narrow alley, the Beco dos Redemoinhos House was probably built in the early part of the 14th century. At the time the alley (Beco) was larger, but was reduced by construction of the Cathedral’s Oratory and Canon Domingos Barbosa’s house. Typically Flemish in style and characterised by the centrally placed chimney on top of the façade, there were originally two Gothic doors and four Gothic windows with finials, of which only two remain.
