Baleeira is a small and very picturesque working fishing port in Sagres. Near to the harbour you can find the remains of a fortification and a lookout tower. Not far from the village, on an outcrop of low cliffs, is the site of a Roman settlement, which specialised in the production of amphorae. The harbour is a popular anchorage for those waiting to round Cape St Vincent. For tourist facilities, there are hotels, restaurants, bars and the Ilhas do Martinhal Diving School near the jetty. Baleeira, although catering for the tourist market, still retains much of the old Portuguese way of life.
