Baleal beach, just 2 km east of Peniche, is set in a cove, one side of which leads on to the Ilha do Baleal. This is a good place to learn windsurfing, but conditions also suit surfing and body boarding. The broad sweep of sand and the rocky promontory provide a splendid setting; a causeway crosses the beach giving access to an idyllic fishing cove. This is an EEC blue flag beach with lifeguards on duty in season and facilities for the disabled. The average summer seawater temperature is 17-18 ºC, parking is available and there are bars, cafes and restaurants.
