The picturesque village of Azenhas do Mar is located 6 km north of Colares and is built on the slopes of a cliff, to which it seems to cling. The beach, whilst tiny, is most interesting, with a large rock seawater pool that is filled at high tide. As it does not have lifeguards, it can be dangerous for bathers and is only suitable for experienced surfers. The Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar at the top of the cliffs, which drop straight to the ocean, provides spectacular sea views. Well worth a visit; there are several good restaurants.
