The Arouca Sacred Art Museum is on the first floor of the old convent and is composed of objects from the former convent. These include paintings, sculpture, tapestries, furniture, textiles and gold and silver items which are housed in the old convent buildings. Of particular note are two paintings depicting Santa Mafalda saving the convent from fire, by the artist André Gonçalves(1685-1762), and a series of rare paintings by Josefa de Óbidos (1630-84), considered one of the most accomplished 17th century artists, at a time when art was dominated by men.
