The long Areia Branca beach is situated 4 km northwest of Lourinhã and is one of the main tourist attractions in the area. It is ideal for learning or engaging in surfing and body boarding and is also used for volleyball. Lifeguards are on duty in season, there are facilities for the disabled, and the average seawater temperature in summer is 17-18 ºC. There are bar, café and restaurant facilities and these are numerous along the promenade, which runs the full length of the beach. Parking is available and umbrellas can be hired.
