Northwest of Lourinhã and close to the aerodrome, Areal Sul Beach is a large expanse of sand, bordered by dunes and next to Areia Branca beach. Popular in summer, the waves are strong and sometimes dangerous, but create excellent surfing and body boarding conditions and this is a venue for competitions. Life guards are on duty in season, there are facilities for the disabled and parking is available. The average seawater temperature in summer is 17-18 ºC, umbrellas can be hired and there are bars, cafes and restaurants.
