The Archaeology Museum is housed in the Convento de São Domingos (16th to 18th centuries), whose church is lined with an extremely beautiful set of 17th century glazed tiles. It has an important archaeological collection, with exhibits from the Palaeolithic era to the Middle Ages. There are also reproductions of drawings and finds from the Gruta do Escoural, the Neolithic caves at Escoural. Amongst the museum’s main attractions are the pottery exhibition and the section on ethnography. There is also a section exhibiting sacred art, bullfighting and some fine examples of animal-drawn carriages.
