The Municipal Archaeological Museum has been installed in the ancient Albufeira City Hall since the late 1980s. The various collections chart Albufeira’s history from its origins until the 18th century. The museum is divided in four different areas: prehistoric, Roman period, Islamic period and modern ages. Some of the museum’s treasures are unique manuscripts describing the historical events of the region. In addition to the various departments, it has a study area; a section devoted to conservation and restoration of artefacts and a library.
