Located northwest of the city centre, is the Antonio Borges Garden, which was originally founded as a private garden in the 19th century by the pineapple cultivator of the same name. It is today a very pleasantly laid-out public green space with many beautiful specimens from all over the world. Of particular note is a superb Indian rubber tree with peculiar roots coming out from everywhere, making the tree look like a giant octopus. There are also fountains and a café with a nice terrace. All in all, this is not only for botanists, but a charming garden that really deserves a visit!
