The Museum is housed in the Moorish-style home of the first director of the Grão Vasco Museum, Francisco de Almeida Moreira, an avid art collector of very wide interests. The house and his entire collection were inherited by the city in 1939. Whilst the house and library alone are interesting, the art collection is well displayed and includes paintings, furniture, porcelain and ceramics. There is a fine statue of a woman and child in the garden.
