South of São Pedro, you will find the village of Almagreira, which in the past was reputed for its clay rich with lead, giving a beautiful russet colour, which in former times was used in the production of porcelain. There are many ruins of windmills and watermills around the village, making an attractive sight. In addition to these, there are a number of mata-mouras in the area. A mata-moura is a ditch where cereals and other valuables were hidden from the pirates. The same constructions can be observed in the locality of Pedras de São Pedro, north of Vila do Porto.
