Aguçadoura beach is located approximately 7 km north of Póvoa de Varzim and close to both the Estrela golf course and a camp site. It is well known to surfers and body boarders and is considered one of the best in Portugal for these sports. It is also the longest beach in the area, with many dunes, and the more remote parts offer the privacy sought by naturalists. Bathers are attracted to the somewhat calmer waters compared with neighbouring beaches. There are bars, cafes and restaurants and the very popular Aguçadoura Beach Party takes place early in August each year.
