Praia de Afife is about 12 km north of Viana de Castelo and has a huge expanse of sand protected by wooden walkways, it has blue flag status and disabled access. At the southern end a small river runs into the sea and, at times, forms a safe lagoon for those with children. The strong waves make the area ideal for surfing. This beach is suitable for surfers, wind surfers, and body boarders; facilities include showers, small craft and umbrella hire.
